Since 1997 the Council has conducted annual roundtable discussions and focus groups with individual artists and arts organizations. At all such gatherings participants have sited the limited access to space as the most significant obstacle to pursuing their careers and organizational missions. This is also true based on recent discussions with arts organizations in southern New Jersey. The Council has determined that a critical step in addressing the lack of access to existing space for creating, producing and presenting work, as well as administration, storage and other purposes is to first understand the nature and extent of needs and facilities and then to provide information on appropriate available spaces. This Space Bank provides an on-line searchable database of traditional and alternative spaces available in southern New Jersey for a variety of arts uses. If you or your organization have a facility that can be used for any purpose related to the arts or arts administration, the Council on the Arts welcomes your participation.
